For the spring of 2013 Smashbox launched a mini collection with the very promising name Heat Wave. Tsssss, sizzling! The collection was launched earlier this month and consists of two products: an eyeshadow palette with ten shades, and a set of four vibrant lip glosses. I am sure you all know that I have a bit of an eyeshadow addiction, so it’s probably no surprise that I am focusing on the Heat Wave eyeshadow palette today.

The ten shades in the palette don’t have names, so to keep things simple I numbered them from 1 to 10. You can apply the eyeshadow both dry and wet. I kept things dry for my swatches and my looks, but applying the eyeshadow wet really boost the color intensity. To finish my looks I also used two Smashbox mascaras: I used the Photo OP Eye Brightening Mascara for two of my looks and the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara for the other two. Now let’s have a closer look at the ten shades in the palette and the looks I created with them!

1: A beigey matte nude. Perfect as a basis for other eyeshadow and for highlighting.

2: A warm brownish bronze shade with a shimmery finish.

3: A light warm brown matte shade. Again perfect as a basis or for an ultra-natural look.

4: Shimmery brick red. Very special, and one of my favorites shades in the palette.

5: A gorgeous golden shade with lots of shimmer. Too bad it got damaged during shipping :-(

6: An amazing champagne shade with again tons of shimmer. Gorgeous as eyeshadow on its own, but also lovely in the inner corner of the eye as a highlighter.

7: A grayish green shade with a shimmery finish. This is my favorite color in the whole palette!

8: Shimmery petroleum blue with gray undertones.

9: Shimmery purple with gray undertones.

10: Nearly black but not quite, and with less shimmer than the other shimmery shades in the palette. It’s an almost-black dark gray that I like to use as in the outer corners of my eyes and along my lash line.

I created four looks with the Smashbox Heat Wave palet and I like all of them. I usually wear dark eyeshadow, but I also really like the lighter shades in the palette. Eight of the ten shades contain shimmer and that results in lovely sparkly looks. The colors aren’t particularly bright or colorful, but the finish of the eyeshadow is very fresh and vibrant and is perfect for spring and summer. I was a bit worried about fall-out when I noticed that the eyeshadow crumbled a bit when I picked it up with my brush, but during the actual application I didn’t notice any fall-out at all. The pigmentation is alright and the color intensity can be easily built. All colors also lasts the whole day without creasing or fading. I am very happy with this palette!

In Switzerland the Smashbox Heat Wave Eye Shadow Palette & Brush is sold exclusively at Marionnaud for 61 CHF. The Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara and the Smashbox Photo Op Eye Brightening Mascara are also sold at Marionnaud.

    • The first sweep (which is what the swatches are) is indeed on the sheerer side, but I can assure you that the color intensity can be built really easy and fast. If you pat it on instead of sweep it on, the color gets a lot more intense.

From the swatches – I think the color is a bit too orange for me but nevertheless the color range is great!

  9. The shades look great as do the looks you created, but I have a real hard time buying shadow palettes – too many shades and often too many that don’t get used, which drives me crazy!
