I converted myself. Hallelujah! Don’t worry, I didn’t join some crazy cult and I don’t have any radical plans à la only-eat-things-that-start-with-the-letter-S. Though that might be a lucrative idea for a new diet… No, I converted myself and I am officially an oil lover now. Let me explain. I have combination to oily skin and my hair also tends to get greasy. That’s why I always used to avoid oil-based beauty and hair products. I didn’t want to make the problem worse. No matter how many good things I read about hair oils and regenerating oil treatments, I didn’t try them, convinced that they wouldn’t work for me. But when I read the press release for the new Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo, I started to wonder if what I was so convinced of could be wrong. From the press release I learned that the new Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser (phew, what a mouthful!) is enriched with oil and that it was developed for oily hair. An oil-based shampoo? For oily hair? Really? Damn. Maybe I had to give it a try… I plucked up my courage, slipped out of my clothes and got in the shower with the new Shu Uemura Cleaning Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser. I am now about 10 washes in, and I am ready to pass my judgement. You already know that I converted myself of course, but let’s find out why exactly.

Packaging

The Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser (*gasps for air*) comes in a see-through plastic bottle with a pump. Very convenient and practical, and also very pretty. The bottle is transparent and the shampoo itself looks very refreshing. Like all Shu Uemura products, this product has something very zen and luxurious about it.

Ingredients

The main ingredients in the new Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser are yuzu fruit, a kind of citrus fruit from Japan, and glycerin complex. Together these ingredients cleanse your hair and your scalp in a gentle but very effective way, and they control the oil glands on your scalp. Also, the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser doesn’t contain any silicones or parabens, and that is a plus of course.

Texture and smell

The Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser comes out of the bottle looking transparent and then transforms into a light and airy foam. And oh my, it smells so good! Using (and smelling) this shampoo creates a real moment of relaxation, I love it!

Result

My hair feels clean and light, and it stays that way. I usually wash my hair every two days, but with the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser I can wait another day without my hair becoming greasy. High five! And it doesn’t leave any oil residue (which is what I was so afraid of) in my hair or on my scalp. On the contrary even, this shampoo seems to cleanse my hair better than other shampoos and controls the oil production better.

Plenty of reasons to convert myself, don’t you agree? I will definitely keep using this Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser. And who knows, maybe I will add even more oil-based beauty products to my stash!

The Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser retails at 61 CHF. There is also an anti-dandruff version.

Have you already tried the new Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Astringent Cleanser? Do you like to use oil-based beauty and hair products?

  2. Thanks for letting us know about this great product. I need to try it.

If you get a sec, check out my latest post Dazzling in Silver’. I think you’ll love this new skirt I bought this weekend. Thank you.

  8. I have a Shu Uemura shampoo, but not this one – so, as usual, after your review, I may try this one! It seems good, if it leaves the hair feeling light, it must be very nice! Sorry I didn’t come here earlier, I was very jet lagged last week, but now it’s all “normal” again!

  9. I’ve been curious about this for so long, and now I think I’ll go ahead and lay my hands on some! I use an oil in my scalp as well as my hair as pre-shampoo treatment, and I guess it couldn’t hurt to use a shampoo that contains some oil too :)

  10. As I am now living in my natural hair lately I am dying for a shampoo that works for me. My hair is oily. And when I wash it, it gets dry. But if I don’t it is oily. So how do I win? This looks promising!! Thanks for sharing.

      • My hair is so tricky. I do use conditioner about half the time, then it becomes oily so quickly! It’s complicated by the fact that it’s also fine and thin. The best I liked my hair was when I was using WEN but wow I can’t afford this stuff! I found some cheaper options but didn’t like them quite as much. I had to use them daily, too, so then I had to blow dry, and then the blow drying was hard on my hair. Can’t win! :)

  11. I have to wash my hair every day so I really want to try this one because it might have me an extra day as well..:) and if it smells good I’m sold:))

  12. Damn, I also have oily hair and now you’re making me want this! Where did you buy it in Switzerland? Hopefully near Geneva! :)

  13. waaah ça a l’air top j’avais dit que je n’utiliserais plus que du Lush sur mes cheveux mais j’avoue que la ça m’intéresse vraiment beaucoup ^^

  14. Haven’t tried it! But just the transparent packaging looks amazing. My hair is also greasy.
    Have a wonderful weekend darling!
By the way: If you see that I’ve written bullshit in english ( Schminke!Schminke!) please let me know… It’s not my mother language and sometimes it might be wrong :)
