It’s summer, and that means enjoying the sun as much as possible! Going out for drinks, having a barbecue on the beach, going hiking in the mountains, or just relaxing on the patio, that is summer for me*! But of course I don’t do these things unprotected. Before I get in the sun, I always put on sunscreen. If I could I’d put on fifty layers of SPF 7000. F*** you UVA and UVB, you’re not gonna get me! Today I am showing you my two most recent and also most favorite sun protection products of the moment: the Susanne Kaufmann Sun Cream SPF 25 and the Susanne Kaufmann Moisture Gel. Come on ladies, take off those shades and let’s have a closer look!

Susanne Kaufmann Sun Cream cell protection

The Susanne Kaufmann Sun Cream is a cell-protecting sun cream with SPF 25 for the face and body that protects the skin against UVA and UVB rays and therefore stops premature aging of the skin. The sun cream is waterproof, contains anti-oxidants and protects the skin against free radicals. And with its plant-based ectoine and pentavitine compex it repairs and restores damaged cells.

So far for the technical details. But what do all these big difficult words really mean? Let me start by telling you about the packaging. Most sunscreen creams come in a spray bottle or a tube, but the Susanne Kaufmann Sun Cream comes in a handy pump bottle. So no fussing around with amount of cream that comes out and no spilling, how convenient. And how adorable is the little yellow birdie on the bottle? Come on, say it, cuuuute!

The texture of the Susanne Kaufmann Sun Cream is like that of many sun creams: it’s light, white and milky. So that’s one thing that it has in common with traditional sunscreen products. But that’s about it, because when it comes to the application and the smell this sun cream is pretty unique. The cream easily spreads out over the skin and becomes transparent in a matter of seconds. So it doesn’t leave a white cast. It really sits on the skin (like a good sun cream should) but it doesn’t feel sticky and doesn’t feel unpleasant. It makes the skin a bit shiny, yes, but it feels very light.

And the smell, oh my, it’s amazing! I usually don’t really think about smell when picking a sunscreen product and I sorta just go with whatever smell it has, but this Susanne Kaufmann Sun Cream really smells great! It’s a delicate floral scent with a hint of citrus, just fantastic. The smell alone makes applying this sunscreen a pleasure.

Bottom line? With its SPF 25 I don’t think that the Susanne Kaufmann Sun Cream is enough for a whole day of intensive sun bathing (in my opinion you need at least SPF 30 and if possible SPF 50 for that) but for daily use in the summer and for shorter moments in the sun I think it’s great. It’s easy to use, doesn’t feel sticky, doesn’t leave a white cast, and it’s a pleasure to smell and to look at. I am sold!

Susanne Kaufmann Moisture Gel

If you want to prevent your summer tan from fading, you’d better keep your skin hydrated after sun bathing. As soon as your skin starts shedding, you’ll lose your tan and all that hard work (timed turning around and making sure those bikini bottoms and straps are well positioned and all) will have been for nothing. I recently started using the Susanne Kaufmann Moisture Gel to keep my summer skin tan and hydrated. The gel can be used as a body lotion, but because of its extremely hydrating capacities, its fast and full absorption and its cooling effect on the skin it’s also a great alternative for after sun lotion. The natural plant and herbal extracts in the gel soothe and nourish the skin, and the cooling sensation relieves the pain of those who’ve worked on their tan a little too hard.

Like the name says, the Susanne Kaufmann Moisture Gel has a gel texture. The gel is pale orangey brown, transparent and relatively runny. This makes applying it a piece of cake. And because the gel comes in a pump bottle, so is getting the right amount of product. The gel get absorbed almost instantly and disappears completely. Someone’s thirsty! Afterwards my skin feels soft and supple, and it stays like that. And the cooling effect is instant. Boy does it feel good on a hot summer day!

The smell of this Susanne Kaufmann Moisturize gel is lovely. The Austrian Susanne Kaufmann really tries her best to not only pump her products full of good ingredients but to also add a nice smell to them. Danke schön, Susanne, we appreciate it, girl!

Bottom line? A lovely cooling gel texture, a great smell and all natural nourishing ingredients, what more could freshly sun-kissed skin want?

The Susanne Kaufmann Sun Cream and the Susanne Kaufmann Moisture Gel are both available in the thetwistshop web shop and cost respectively 73 CHF and 35 CHF.

  2. Lijken me fijne producten!

  3. Glad to find out it has a nice smell! I am so sick of that sunscreen lotion smell that most of them have. But SPF 25 is kind of low for me, I’ll check out if they have 50 :D

  5. Thanks for your lovely words on my last post!
Sounds like a nice product and the right thing to keep your sking moisturized in that heat!

    Have a great day,
    -Kati

  6. Very nice review. I haven’t heard of this brand before, but the smell of the sun cream alone sound soooo tempting. I LOVE citrus in summer!!

And thank you soooo much for all the kind comments on my blog <3

  9. Serieuze verpakkingen, they mean business!

      • Oh! That’s so cool. I’ll have to look into their history. It’s unclear where they’re family comes from (her husband), because they were descendants of some kind of religious group that fled to America to escape persecution (so are my parents, but a different one), and now that you mention it I think Austria might line up with that story better, or maybe there are Kauffmans in both countries. :)

  13. wow, haven’t heard about this brand before ;-) The design looks lovely of the gel. Sounds great for summer. Have to check the webpage ;-)
