Unfortunately I have very thin and fine hair, and even the best styling products can only give my hair a little bit of vavavoom. To really get a lot of extra volume, I would need more and thicker hair, which I obviously I don’t have. Seriously, if a fairy godmother could come and wave her magic wand around and change a few things about my appearance, I’d definitely ask for thick voluminous hair. But since my fairy godmother seems to be occupied elsewhere – working hard on maintaining Prince Charming’s fabulous blonde mane I’m sure, that selfish bastard – I have been creating my own magic with clip-in extensions from 1001extensions.ch. Have a look!

I ordered a set of straight clip-in extensions in the color kastanienbraun, a reddish brown. I chose the longest ones (56 centimeters) to add even more length to my already long hair. Kastanienbraun doesn’t perfectly match my own hair color – my own hair is slightly darker – but it’s close enough.

One set of extensions contains seven separate pieces of hair: one wide piece with four clips, two slightly narrower ones with three clips, two with two clips and two with just one clip. Very handy, all those separate locks, because that way you can decide exactly where to add volume and you can even work in layers. The clip-in extensions consist of 100% human hair and they feel very soft and natural. This is faking at its best*! And yes, I am totally fine with a bit of fakery, as long as it looks natural. And that is definitely the case with these extensions from 1001extensions.
*Mwahahaha! *evil cackle*

Fooled them all with my extensions, mooowaahahahahaaa!

Using (attaching? applying? putting in?) the extensions is easy as pie. I use a rat tail comb to section my hair in one straight horizontal line from side to side. I secure the top layer of my hair with a few hair clips and get it out of the way, and then I clip three of the seven extensions – the three widest ones with three and four clips – in my hair one by one from ear to ear. I then section my hair a second time, a little bit higher this time, and I clip in the four remaining pieces of hair. I let the top layer of my hair fall over the extensions, quickly check in the mirror to make sure that there are no bumps and that the clips are nicely hidden, and that’s it. It takes about five minutes, and BAM, volume like I have never had before! Trust me, no amount of mousse, hair spray or volumizing powder can give me this much (lasting) volume! And even if it could, then clip-in extensions would still be a better option, because they don’t damage my hair. No nasty chemicals, no heat, no product build-up,… just some extra human hair that I have to clip in and that’s it.

The extra weight of the hair does feel kind of strange, but it doesn’t hurt. I actually think I like it, that feeling of having a full head of hair. I’m not used to that. I don’t wear the extensions every day – my morning routine is long enough as it is, and especially during the work week every extra minute of sleep is more than welcome – but for parties and special occasions the extensions are perfect.

In case it wasn’t obvious: I am happy with my order. Thanks to my new clip-in extensions from 1001extensions .ch I finally have volume in my hair! The extensions look good, they don’t damage my hair, and the extra volume really gives me a confidence boost. Hip hip hairay!

Want a little extra volume or length as well? You can buy extensions in all lengths and colors at www.1001extensions.ch. My red brown 56 cm extensions cost 74.90 CHF per set.

Have you ever used clip-in extensions to add length and volume to your hair?

    Happy hair day!

  3. These extensions look great on you, but for me they won’t be an option. First, they’re way too short (that’s right, too short, my own hair is at least 20cm longer), and second, my problem with lacking volume isn’t due to fine hair (mine’s pretty thick), but to heavy hair that just hangs down. And no, it’s not the lengh, it just hangs down anyway, no matter how short it is (I had a short cut as a teenager, so I know), and I’ve never found a solution, as all volume tricks (shampoo, blow drying, extensions etc.) are for fine hair, and not for heavy hair without volume… :-/

And btw: I don’t think at all your hair looks thin without the extensions, I guess we’ve just seen too many pictures of models/actresses/etc. with their professionaly styled (for hours) hair that we have completely wrong expectations about natural hair…

  4. I think these Clip on extensions are way better because you can reuse them anytime. Plus, it’s much easier to attach. However, I think you really have to take care of it. I can’t go with this since I often comb my hair with my hands. Uh oh.

You don’t actually look like wearing extensions. So natural!

  5. ooh, they look really great. i cut my hair just a few days ago to a little less than shoulder-lenght. i hate it. but i had so damaged lenghts that i had to do this.
the only problem is: my hair is pink. i think i have to dye the extensions first. haha.

  6. Hey Melissa, I’ve always been skeptical about extensions (or anything I haven’t tried, really), but this is SEAMLESS on your hair! You already have gorgeous length, and this definitely gets you ready for some kind of grand/fun occasion. Love it!

  8. I just noticed how amazing your brows are!! Sorry completely off topic but it just stroke me :) Ok extensions, thinking about these for a while know so question, can you also curl them? And really really don’t you see them at the back?

    • Aw, thanks Peggy :-D I put a lot of work in them, lol. And often I am still not happy with them. As for the extensions, yes, you can use styling tools on them. But this will damage them just the way it would damage your own hair. So I imagine that it would decrease their life span a bit. And nope, you really can’t see the clips, not from any angle.

  10. It looks great on you! I never used extensions I have a LOT of hair so I’m afraid of adding more thickness. But on medium fine hair I think it can look pretty cool!

  11. they look really really nice on you :) . I find clip ins very practical, I have long and very full hair myself I wouldn’t dare to add more but I have a few colored ones that I put in sometimes and I love them.

  13. You are HILAIRS!!!! Cracking up at the “selfish bastard” comment! SO FUNNY! As a fellow fine haired gal, the allure of a full head of voluminous hair sounds AMAZING! I totally get jealous when thick-haired people say, “Oh, I can’t even put my hair in a pony tail b/c it’s so HEAVY…” REALLY. I could get all of my hair into a tiny coin purse, and it’s down to my mid-back. Jealous! Love the look of these extensions on you and that is AWESOME that you’re having a thick haired moment! I am cheers-ing you from Atlanta! :)

  16. Great post. I luckily have quite thick hair, but it’s not as long as I would like, so perhaps I will give those ones a try. Great overall blog. It’s great to see so many great responses on your blog. Gives my great inspiration for mine.

;) Haha!

Keep on blogging meid, ik lees met plezier mee! :)

    Liefs,
    Nathalie
