Foundation. I could talk about it for hours, do research on it for hours and experiment with it for hours. Even now that I have found my absolute holy grail* foundation I still find myself hunting for new HG material. I am just aaaalways on the lookout for the new perfect foundation to take over the crown from my current favorite. Always! To me flawless skin is essential to looking good, so I am slightly obsessed with finding the ideal foundation for my skin. Today I’m reviewing the new Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation. Does it have holy grail potential? Let’s find out!
The new Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation from Covergirl comes in a glass pump bottle. So nothing cheap or plastic, but really a very decent sturdy bottle. The pump is very hygienic and makes it easy to dispense the right amount of product. Yep, definitely two thumbs up for the packaging.
I have the Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation in Golden Tan, a medium warm shade for those with slightly tanned skin or a little left-over color from summer. Golden Tan is a teeny tiny bit too dark for me, but not in a bad way. It just subtly boosts my color a bit without looking too obvious. I know, I know, the first unwritten commandment in the foundation Bible is “Thou shall not wear foundation that is darker or lighter than your natural skin tone” but sometimes rules are meant to be broken and I think here that’s the case. So Golden Tan isn’t a perfect natural match for me, but it’s close enough and I really like the result of it on my skin.
The ‘3-in-1’ in the name is dead giveaway of course, but just to be clear: the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation is multifunctional. It works as a primer, a concealer and a foundation all in one. So it smoothes the skin, camouflages flaws and irregularities, and provides a long-lasting matte finish. The foundation also contains broad spectrum SPF 20 which is – even in fall and winter –a big plus.
Texture & coverage
The texture of the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation is light and quite liquid. It’s a lot runnier than my previous foundation, which was more creamy. This makes the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation very easy to apply, either with your fingers, a sponge or a foundation brush. The coverage is medium and buildable yet still quite natural as well. It isn’t a nude foundation of course, so you do kind of see the foundation when you look at the skin from up close, but it definitely doesn’t look fake or cakey. The foundation offers a nice balance between decent coverage and a natural-looking finish.
Finish & wear
The finish of the foundation is matte, and I love that. When I don’t powder my face after applying foundation I usually still see imperfections everywhere – shine emphasizes flaws and draws attention to discolorations and irregularities – but the matte finish of the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation makes my skin look almost completely even straight away. And with a light touch of powder afterwards the result is just perfect. After that I apply just a little bit of blush to add a bit of color and dimension, sometimes also a bit of highlighter, et voilà, matte yet naturally radiant skin.
The wear of the foundation is fine. It easily survives a hectic work day or a good party. The coverage does decrease slightly after a while, but the foundation never starts staining, flaking or creasing. And it also never ends up sitting visibly on my skin like some foundations – god knows why – tend to do after a while.
The Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation is an affordable long-lasting mattifying foundation that is perfect for oily skin like mine that needs quite a bit of coverage. So is the Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation holy grail material for me? I think so. The packaging, the 3-in-1 formula, the nice matte finish and the wear definitely deserve points, no doubt about that. But because the color isn’t a perfect natural match for me I’m still a bit hesitant to call it a true HG foundation. So right now the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation can’t take over the crown (just yet) from my current favorite foundation, but it definitely deserves a spot in my top three. And who knows, maybe eventually it will take the throne. It sure looks promising so far!
The Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation has been available since this month for 17.90 CHF.
