Matching your nail polish to your make-up, a big beauty no no? Not at all!

In the fashion world everyone seems to agree that it’s really uncool to match the color of your shoes to that of your bag and vice versa, and in the beauty world people sometimes consider it a beauty faux pas as well if you match the color of your nails to the color of your eyeshadow or lipstick. But is matching colors really such a big no no then? I always say that there are no rules in beauty and fashion, so with that in mind I’m breaking the rules of color matching and I’m matching my nail polish to the colors of my make-up. Yep, you heard it, I’m going for 100% matchy matchy today!

For my eye look I used a matte dark blue Smashbox eyeshadow and on my lips I wore a sparkly burgundy purple Revlon lip gloss.

And I used the same blue and burgundy on my nails. I used the My Extrem Vernis Nail Lacquer in Obsession (burgundy purple) and the My Extrem Vernis Nail Lacquer in Skinny Blue (dark blue) with the My Extrem Vernis Nail Lacquer Matte Finish mattifying top coat, all by Beauty Nails Advance, a professional nail polish brand from France that now also sells its products to private customers. On my right hand I used Obsession on four out of five nails and Skinny Blue on one, and on my left hand I did the opposite.

And tah daaaaaah, perfectly matching make-up and nail polish! And I don’t care if it’s cool or uncool, but I lllllike it!

I’ve used the Smashbox eyeshadow and the Revlon lipgloss that I used for this look several times before so I knew that those shades would rock. It was my first time using the Beauty Nail Advance nail polishes though, but luckily it was a very pleasant first experience. Obsession and Skinny Blue both have an incredibly pigmented formula that easily gives full opaque coverage in just one coat, and the finish is perfectly even and streak-free. Awesome. And the wear of the nail lacquers is brilliant as well. I had to take off my nail polish after four days because of work (sigh) and at that point my manicure still looked absolutely flawless. No chipping, no tipping, just pure perfection! So yeah, it’s easy to see that Beauty Nails Advance has professional roots.

  1. Waaait is that a faux-pas??? LOL I’ve been doing this for quite a while now! I thought it’s matching your fingernails with toe nails that’s not seen as very modern… But ultimately we should be free to do what we want, right :p

  2. Those BNA nail polishes look good! And I think you look great doing this matchymatchy look:) You’re right! There really are no riles when it comes to beauty. Just do what looks and feels good to you.

  3. You nailed it girl!! Goede match!!

  5. I like it, but I don’t think that matching up some stuff is such a faux pas. But if everything (Nails, clothes, accessories, make up) is matchy matchy then it starts looking tacky.

.. is zo prachtig. I LOVE your eye makeup. Prachtig zeg. wow.

  7. I like matchy matchy too :) It is so girly n fun :) have you heard icona pop’s song – ‘I dont care, i love it’ :D He he! Melissa , i love that blue in your sweater! It looks so royal! :) Also , your lip color is gorgeous.!

  9. Oh I love this look!!! I say there are no rules, it’s happened to be to be matchy matchy sometimes intentionaly and sometimes by accident but most of the time I don’t. I guess I try to respect a certain harmony but it’s not a necessity it’s just the way I am I guess. :)

  10. I am also one of those people who never match the color of their shoes to their bag. I know some people find it weird. But when it comes to makeup I am more flexible. I love this post!!! Beautiful!
