A few weeks ago I got the chance to test the Swiss Smile Whitening Star Set, an at-home dental whitening kit that claims to give you pearly white teeth. A nice smile starts with healthy white teeth, and it’s a known fact that a person’s smile and teeth can influence the way others perceive them. That’s why I personally care a lot about my teeth and I try to keep them healthy. But I’m only human, and I drink tea and coke pretty much on a daily basis and I eat a lot of food that is known to cause teeth discoloration. So my teeth aren’t perfectly white, and a little brightening definitely wouldn’t hurt. Needless to say I was very excited to try the Swiss Smile Whitening Star Set. Almost two weeks have passed since I first started using the products, and today I’m ready to pass my judgement.
The products of Swiss Smile are the result of a collaboration between the world-leading Swiss Smile clinics and the Swiss dental care pioneer Curaprox. I received a toothpaste, two toothbrushes and a dental conditioner. The products come in a lovely box and come with a nice sturdy holder. It all looks very chic and classy. The people of Swiss Smile clearly know how to make a good first impression!
The Swiss Smile Whitening Toothpaste claims to whiten and brighter your teeth without damaging them. The combination of triclosan and sodium fluoride in the formula removes stains, prevents new discolorations and protects the teeth. The toothpaste doesn’t contain any harsh abrasives or bleach, which is why according to Swiss Smile it’s safe to use it every day. Great, because the fear of damaging my teeth is exactly what keeps me from getting my teeth professionally bleached. That, and the price tag of course…
The Swiss Smile Toothpaste is white and has the same texture, smell and fresh taste as any other toothpaste. After I brush my teeth with it my teeth feel clean and smooth and my mouth and breath are nice and fresh.
In addition to the Swiss Smile Whitening Toothpaste I also received a special dental conditioner, the Swiss Smile Whitening Pearl Shine & Repair Dental Conditioner. Say what now, a conditioner for your teeth? Yep, pretty neat huh? You use the Swiss Smile Whitening Pearl Shine & Repair Dental Conditioner after brushing your teeth, the way you use conditioner after shampooing your hair. The formula contains pure nanocrystals that are extracted from mother-of-pearl and that have the same structure as dental tissue. The crystals lift impurities from the surface of the teeth and bind with the enamel to protect and reinforce the teeth and give them a nice pearly glow.
The Swiss Smile Whitening Pearl Shine & Repair Dental Conditioner comes in a pump bottle, is white and has a very light foamy texture. You can apply the foam with a toothbrush – that’s how I do it – or you can just spray it straight into your mouth and swoosh it around like mouth water. It is advised to use the Swiss Smile Whitening Pearl Shine & Repair Dental Conditioner once a day, after brushing your teeth. I personally use the conditioner in the evening so that the nanocrystals can work their magic during the night.
And now the question we’ve all been waiting for. Did these products actually whiten my teeth? I started using the Swiss Smile Whitening Star Set almost two weeks ago and I’ll let the before and after pictures speak for themselves:
As you can see there’s not that much difference. I do get the impression that my teeth are a liiiittle bit whiter, but maybe it’s just in my head, I don’t know… What do you think?
The Swiss Smile Whitening products are only sold by Swiss Smile retailers. The toothpaste, the toothbrushes and the conditioner retail at 28.90 CHF, 17.90 CHF and 58 CHF.
