Review | Protect every inch of your body against the sun with the Coola Organic Suncare Collection

As I’m getting older I’m becoming more and more aware of the importance of good sun protection – wisdom often only comes with age unfortunately – and especially with summer around the corner I find it very important to protect my skin with high-quality sun care products. Earlier this month I got the opportunity to try some products from Coola, a San Diego-based company that specializes in organic sun care, and from the brand’s impressive and very wide range of Organic Suncare products I eventually selected five personal favorites. Have a look!

Coola Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 20 & Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 30 Natural BB Cream

The part of our body that suffers the most from sun damage is our face. Winter or summer, our poor face is constantly exposed to the sun and is bombarded with harmful UV rays 365 days a year. So you can see why using a face product with SPF on a daily basis is essential. I tested several facial sunscreens from Coola, and in the end I picked the Coola Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 20 and the Coola Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 30 Natural BB Cream as my two favorites.

Review (Coola Organic Suncare Collection) (1)

The Coola Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 20 is a mineral sunscreen with SPF 20 that contains titanium oxide as an active ingredient. Not only does it protect the skin from UV rays but the natural vitamins, antioxidants and extracts in the formula also soften, tone and hydrate the skin. The texture of the Coola Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 20 is like that of any other traditional sunscreen, but it’s a bit easier to apply and it doesn’t leave a visible white cast. And it also has a mattifying effect on my oily skin, which is the main reason that it ended up on my favorites list.

The Coola Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 30 Natural BB Cream is basically the tinted version of the Coola Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 20 so as far as packaging, texture, application and finish go it’s pretty much identical to the Coola Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 20. But the difference is that in addition to titanium oxide the formula also contains zinc oxide which brings the product’s total SPF at 30 instead of 20, and the Coola Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 30 Natural BB Cream is also slightly tinted which allows it to even out my skin a little bit like a BB cream. This will come in handy on those terrifying yet unavoidable moments when you pretty much have no choice but to skip foundation, like on the beach or at the pool.

Coola Fresh Mango Classic Sunscreen SPF 45 & Coola Citrus Mimosa Sunscreen Spray SPF 30

Unlike your face, your body gets to hide from the sun under a layer of clothes most of the year, but when it’s finally bikini time again it suddenly becomes exposed to UV rays and when that happens you better be ready to apply and reapply that sunscreen! Not exactly a fun chore, I know, but luckily there are plenty of lovely scented products out there that make that chore a little more pleasant, like the Coola Fresh Mango Classic Sunscreen SPF 45 and the Coola Citrus Mimosa Sunscreen Spray SPF 30.

Review (Coola Organic Suncare Collection) (2)

The Coola Fresh Mango Classic Sunscreen SPF 45 comes in a squeeze tube, has a thick creamy texture, is white, and basically looks and feels a lot like a traditional sunscreen cream. But what sets it apart and makes it more interesting for me is that it gets absorbed very quickly, that it doesn’t leave too much of a white cast and most importantly that it has lovely subtle mango scent. Omnomnom!

Unlike the Coola Fresh Mango Classic Sunscreen SPF 45, the Coola Citrus Mimosa Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 comes in a spray can – very practical – and has a lovely fresh zesty smell. Yum! It also contains SPF 30 instead of 45, and because it’s a spray it feels very lightweight and refreshing. It’s the perfect sunscreen product for when you’re in a rush.

Coola Liplux SPF 30

My fifth and final favorite is the Coola Liplux SPF 30, a transparent lip balm with SPF that looks and feels like a regular lip balm. It’s very moisturizing, it keeps my lips smooth and hydrated, and it’s completely colorless. So it won’t give you that dreaded ski slope lips effect. The Coola Liplux SPF 30 is basically a classic lip balm, but with SPF 30. Love it!

  1. This is a good revieww. I didn’t know this brand and it looks great to me.
I have a dark skin and need to protect myself also very good against the sun. Some people think that we don’t need to do this.
But yes even my skin can be burned from the sun.

Have a very bright day Xoxo

    • I’m so glad to hear you say this! It’s not because you have dark skin that the sun can’t do damage. I don’t burn either, but that doesn’t mean the sun won’t damage and age my skin.

  2. Ooh I’ve read several good reviews for this brand, just wished it was more readily available. Here we have Ombrelle (developped here and now owned by L’Oréal) which are super performing and affordable. Since I rarely expose myself, I’m good with one for both face & body and an SPF face powder. :)

  3. Love that first image:D And have never heard of Coola before. The line sounds pretty good. I usually just use Neutrogena or Banana Boat sunscreens.

  4. Ack! I *wish* I could do more with sunscreen, but they just either break me out or irritate my skin and bring up eczema on my face! I will definitely wear sunscreen if I know I’m going to be in the sun with unavoidably exposed skin, but normally I just avoid the sun, LOL. You should see me hiking in summer. I’m the only person wearing full length thermals top and bottom, with a neckcloth puled up all the way over my nose like a balaclava, my beanie pulled down over my eyebrows and sunglasses covering the space in between! Also, gloves. Seriously. I wish I could just find a sunscreen gentle but effective enough, personally!

    • Oh wow, and I thought I looked silly with my hat and my constant slathering on the sunscreen. Don’t you overheat that way?! I can’t imaging climbing a mountain wearing that much clothes.

  5. We took a bottle of the Pina Colada spray sunscreen for body on our honeymoon to Puerto Rico and we LOVED it! We actually went through the entire can in 2 days! Happy to report no one got burned! Coola is awesome. Who knew sunscreen could be so much fun and smell so incredibly amazing?! I must try that lippie!
