Make-Up Look | Brown + Burgundy Smokey Eyes

You’re probably getting sick of me constantly posting looks featuring my Coastal Scents Custom Eyeshadow Palette, but I just can’t help it. I love my Coastal Scents Hot Pots! That’s the beauty of putting together your own eyeshadow palette: every single shade you pick is a shade you’ll love and use and – in my case – throw at people’s faces every chance you get. Today’s look features shimmery golden brown and red on the eyes paired with a peachy nude on the lips. Take a look!

Let’s start with eyes. I went with Coastal Scents Boca Mocha – a shimmery golden brown – on the eyelid and Coastal Scents Pomegranate Red – a matte red – in the outer corner of the eyes and crease. Blending Pomegranate Red into Boca Mocha makes it look less pure red and more burgundy, and turns it into a perfect color match for the Makeup Geek Full Spectrum Eye Liner Pencil in Plumeria that I’m wearing on my lower waterline. I completed the eye look by smudging a bit of Coastal Scents Chocolatier against my lower waterline, highlighting my inner eye corner with Coastal Scents Snow Bunny and applying a lick of mascara (Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Smoky Eyes Mascara) and a subtle wing just in the outer corners of my eyes (Sephora Fingertip Eyeliner).

On my skin I’m wearing my trusted combination of the Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer and the Morphe Banana Powder, and for blush I went with Crochet from my Sleek Blush By 3 Lace Blush Palette. And on my lips is the Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Nude Beach, a subtle peachy nude that balances out the heavy eye look.

What do you think of the look? Do you have a favorite eyeshadow palette?

Make-Up Look | New Year’s Eve

If there’s one occasion to go all out with make-up it’s New Year’s Eve. Glitter! Sparkle! Falsies! The bigger the better! But not for me. At least not this year. After spending a week in Belgium for Christmas the hubby and I were all partied out and desperate for some alone time, so we decided to stay in and welcome the new year at our place with a home-cooked meal, (lots of) champagne and a festive dessert. And it was perfect!

Since we weren’t going out I had no reason to go all party crazy with my make-up, so I kept it predictable subtle with a matte smokey eye and nude lips.

On my eyes I’m wearing four shades from the Sleek Makeup Ultra Mattes V2 I-Divine Eyeshadow Palette: Maple on the eyelid, Paper Bag in the outer eye corners and crease, Pillow Talk in the inner eye corners and Villan against the lash line. I completed the look with black eye pencil (MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline Black), black mascara (Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Smokey Eyes Mascara) and a very thin winged liner (Sephora Fingertip Eyeliner).

On my skin I’m wearing my beloved combination of the Kiss Me Sunkiller Super Lasting Base and the Morphe Banana Powder, and for blush I went with Rich Berry from the Smashbox L.A. Lights Blush & Highlight Palette. And for lips I decided to go with the Victoria Beckham Estée Lauder Lipstick in Brazilian Nude.

And, since we’re doing the full breakdown anyway, let’s also have a look at accessories. I’m wearing my favorite choker necklace from Born Pretty** – awesome find, if I do say so myself – together with a brand new pair of silver star earrings, also from Born Pretty**.

What make-up did you wear for New Year’s Eve? How did you ring in the new year?

Two Dashes Of Glam | Least Favorite Make-Up Color

This month my Two Dashes of Glam partner Natasja and I challenged each other to create a make-up look featuring our least favorite make-up color. Check it out!

My Gray Smokey Eyes

I frequently incorporate gray in my outfits, I often sport gray on my nails and when it comes to home decoration I think gray is a lovely color. So I’m not a graycist. Yay for gray! Gray all the way! Gray is great! Except when we’re talking make-up. In make-up gray is just so… blah. The color just feels really bland and boring and lifeless to me. I mean, where’s the fun? Where’s the excitement?

Today however I’m getting over my aversion for gray with an all-gray smokey eye featuring the gray shade from my Morphe 12S Soul of Summer Palette and a dark matte gray from the e.l.f. Everyday Smoky Eyeshadow Palette.

I simply applied the shimmery silver gray from the Morphe palette all over my eyelid and then blended the matte gray in my outer eye corners and crease and against my lash line for an all-gray smokey look.

Since I didn’t want to add any colors to the look that could potentially overwhelm the gray I decided to only do a subtle white highlight in my inner eye corners and use simple black eyeliner and mascara to complete the eyes.

And I also kept my lip color and blush very subtle with just a bit of the Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush in Indecent on the cheeks and the Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in Buff on the lips.

Natasja’s Gray Make-Up

Turns out Natasja feels the same way about gray as I do – buhooooooorrrrring – so she too went for a make-up look featuring gray. Quickly hop over to Eyes Painted Black to find out what she came up with!

What do you think of our looks? What is your least favorite make-up color?

Video Tutorial | How To Make Your Lips Look Bigger Using Lip Liner And Lipstick

A while ago someone asked my BFF if I had had my lips done. The person in question had seen me at a party and said that my lips looked suspiciously big. A little-help-from-doctor-needle big. My bestie told her that no, I hadn’t had any fillers in my lips and that it was probably just make-up. And though that’s exactly what it was the inquiring person remained skeptical. So that is why today I want to prove that it IS possible to considerably enhance and plump your lips using just lip liner and lipstick. After Kylie Jenner lied about having lip injections – “I just overline my lips, I swear!” – everyone has become a bit suspicious of girls with a full(er) pout and while it’s true that lip fillers are becoming more and more common I want to show you that you don’t necessarily have to resort to needles to make your lips look bigger. Usually I only outline – and not overline – my lips because I prefer my make-up to look real and natural, but for today’s tutorial I decided to overdo it and go a bit more over the top just to show you what a difference a bit of lip liner and lipstick can make. Back in August I already posted a tutorial on how to use lip liner and nude lipstick for natural-looking full lips, but today I’m going bigger and bolder with a tutorial on how to make your lips look full. Rrrrreally full. Take a look!

Get Ready With Me | Quick Everyday Make-up In Soft Warm Colors

My skin can be a bit of a drama queen. Nine times out of ten when I want to film a Get Ready With Me video a few zits magically pop up or I’m stuck with a handful of old acne marks to deal with. And while that’s not the end of the world it’s obviously much nicer to get in front of the camera when your skin is cooperating. And at the moment that’s exactly what it’s doing. And it feels GOOD! So good even that I decided to film an impromptu Get Ready With Me video. I decided to go for a quick everyday make-up in soft warm colors featuring a subtle smokey eye and a nude lip. Take a look!
