Trends cycle, techniques evolve, but a handful of makeup moves stay useful no matter what's showing up on the runway. Here are the ones genuinely worth keeping in your kit.
A short list that actually holds up
Curl, then layer mascara. An eyelash curler is one of the most underrated tools in the bag. Clamp at the root, hold for ten seconds, then apply two coats of mascara — the combination creates a lash lift that fakes both length and volume without falsies. No curler? A clean spoon, warmed briefly in your hand, works as a pinch substitute.
Set with translucent powder and a tissue. For a no-makeup makeup look that reads as skin rather than product, apply foundation and a touch of blush, then dust translucent powder all over. Lightly press a tissue to the face for thirty seconds, remove, and mist with rosewater. The tissue lifts the surface excess; the mist brings everything back to life. It genuinely looks like nothing — in the best possible way.
Sheer the lipstick. A lip colour feeling too heavy? Press it into the lips, blot firmly with a tissue, and add a coat of clear gloss on top. The result is a modern, lived-in wash of colour — polished rather than painted.
Patch-test anything new. This applies to olive oil on skin, heavy conditioners near the hairline, new formulas — all of it. A quick patch test on the inner arm before committing to your face will save you a lot of grief.
